I Wiped Out My Harddrive. Now What Do I Do? (Start from post #6)
I want to uninstall Internet Explorer, but it keeps on saying Uninstallation failed after it starts uninstalling stuff for a minute. Is there a way I can delete it manually?

Re: Can't uninstall Internet Explorer 6!
What OS? I don't think it can because it is tied into so many other processes.
I think it is Windows Explorer, also.

I believe dglienna is correct, IE cannot be uninstalled as it is firmly rooted.....wasnt that a big part of the anti-trust case?

I think they argued that it CAN be uninstalled, but forget the details.

Your not really supposed to uninstall it on XP, but it is possible. On previous versions I believe you should be able to.

Re: Can't uninstall Internet Explorer 6!
Well I just killed my computer trying
It now will never log back into windows again. It's just stuck in DOS. Well, I was gonna try upgrading to XP instead, but it still won't read the CD. So I wiped out my harddrive by typing Format C:, and it did it. Still won't install XP. Now My harddrive isn't even a C drive anymore. I had to use another computer to put DOS on a floppy. Now all it says at the prompt is A:>, and I have no idea on how to make my harddrive become C: again. Might need some computer whizzes to give me a hand. Anyone?

Have you set boot from CD as the first thing to boot from in the BIOS?

Well thats just it. Like I said, it's no longer a C: drive!!! It's nothing! Whenever I try to switch from the A: drive to the C: drive, it says that its an invalid drive specified.

What happens if you use a LiveCD?
Can any of the Linux tools recognise your drive?
Some of the distros will format NTFS

Put a copy of FDISK on the floppy, and run it. Make Disk 0 the Active Partition.
You might have to re-format the drive after setting the partition. It is odd that you don't have a C: drive anymore.

That's a dead link. I'll try googling it and see what I can come up with.

Why would you want to uninstall I.E?
You could have just set Firefox or Netscape as your default browser. You'd get the same effect.

You can get fdisk from a 98/Me boot disk. I think you have mentioned before that you had access or had been running one of those on another system.
When you do get it you need to run "FDisk /mbr" first before anything. This will reset your Master Boot Record. Then you will be ready to fdisk it, destroy the partitions, recreate your main partition, verify it, and then if you have Format you can do a "Format C: /S"
