    Use the GetObject function.
    VB Code:
    1. Option Explicit
    2. 'Add a reference to ms outlook xx.0 object library
    3. Private Sub Command1_Click()
    4.
    5.     On Error Resume Next
    6.
    7.     Dim oApp As Outlook.Application
    8.
    9.     Set oApp = GetObject(, "Outlook.Application")
    10.     If TypeName(oApp) = "Nothing" Then
    11.         Set oApp = New Outlook.Application
    12.     End If
    13.     On Error GoTo 0
    14.
    15.     'Blah, blah, blah...
    16.
    17. End Sub
