you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again

I was wondering if there is a setup switch that could be changed such that it would be based on returning to the thread vrs returning to the forum? ie...

"you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the THREAD again"

Regardless of what it says, isn't that the way it works? In other words if 5 people post after you in a thread you only get one notification until you visit the thread again. Chit Chat seems to be different for some reason.

Exactly as I suspected.

"Post race", "Woka stole my mojo", ... I posted once in, and then my inbox was getting a notice for EVERY post!

Until I finally canceled my subscription for those chit chat posts.

Then, if thats the case,

Is there any way to get chit chat posts to send emails consistent with all the other threads?

When you subscribe to a thread, there are options. These include instant notices, daily notices, etc. If you have something giving you notices on a different frequency, then chances are that you changed the options for that item....

Brad, what NotLKH and I are saying is that if for example you post in the Classic VB forum and someone posts in the same thread after you, you get only one email notification no matter how many people post in that thread after that (until you visit the thread again). In Chit Chat it's different. If you post in a thread there you continue to get email notification for each and every post in that thread after that until you manually unsubscribe from the thread.

By default, whenever I place an initial post in a thread, the subscription is instant email notification.

This results in an email similar to the following:

"Hello NotLKH,

brad jones has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again - in the Forum Feedback forum of VBForums.com.

This thread is located at:
http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...2&goto=newpost

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.

Yours,
VBForums.com team"

As you can see, if I don't revisit the forum {or thread, as Martin pointed out}, then an email is not supposed to be sent ever again.


Do chit chat posts follow this policy?

I just did a thread in Chit Chat:

"10 Minute Post Race"

And then logged out.

It received 4 responses in that ten minutes, but I received only 1 notice.

I'll do another test, but stay logged on, and see what happens then.

If you are active on the forum while the thread is recieving replies, you will get a notification for each reply.

It should be reworded to "you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again".

I feel it should be based on revisiting the thread, and not the forum.
Martin pointed out that it may say "forum" but it effectively is "thread", except for chit chat threads, which seem to just email all the time, {But I now think is somewhat illusionary, per my 10 minute post race tests.}

Its just that At one point, my inbox had 10 or 15 "Woka Stole My Mojo" Email notices with no other emails inbetween.

I'm happy with 1 notice, once, and if I don't revisit the thread, No more, let alone 15.


But, anyways, if there is no master control switch behind the scenes, then never mind.
