Compress a storage unit
I want to compress a USB memory stick to enlarge its capacity. I've never used this feature. What are the inconvenients?

Re: Compress a storage unit
well, if you are using a USB 2.0 stick then i wouls say go ahead and do it if you want, but if you use a USB 1.1 then i would say no dont do it.
although i have never compressed a thumb drive, i have compressed other portable storage, and i have found it makes it EXTREMELY SLOW. it also may not beable to compress very much, based on uncompressed size.

Re: Compress a storage unit
It's USB 1 and I've already compressed it for a try. I find it's probably a bit slower but not that much. The big surprise came after I rebooted the computer and the compression was "reversed" and shrank back to the original value.

Well, all other issues aside, I compressed the unit under Win98 and I now find it can't be used in WinXP so I'll have to undo the compression.
