Arrow Very Simple network... Where to start???

    Hello all!

I would like route midi messages between two computers over a 1394 connection.

I therefore need to send 3 variables from host to client. As simple as that.

Having never worked with networking before, I haven't a clue where to start.

Any examples or words of advice to get me on track would really be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

    Alex

Just use two MIDI outputs, and send one to each machine. You can control what goes to each output port. You could also have 2 inputs.
I have a USB device that has 4x4 in and out ports total 8.

    Hi,
thanks for your suggestion, but the idea was to avoid using two midi ports.

I think I'll use an I/O ActiveX Control straigt through a printer cable. It will avoid having to set up networks .

    Cheers,
    Alex

I used to have a joystick to midi in and out y-adapter. That might work better than hardware connected to your parallel port. I've had both, and think the USB is the best. I have 4 in and 4 out, plus others on the same machine.
