Visual Basic 2005 Beta 2 Released
It was released a couple of days ago, but it's still good news.
For all those using beta 1 or those who want to see what Microsoft has in store for the next version of Visual Basic .NET, I suggest you download and install Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Beta 2 Express Edition (Free of charge) from here: Visual Studio 2005 Beta Downloads. Of course, if you have a MSDN subscription, you can get the full IDEs which are also available.
I've been using it for the past two days and I can safely say, it's a wonderful piece of software that not only looks very pretty, but also adds tons of features that make programming so much easier (and fun ).
Microsoft also says that Beta 2 is ready to begin development of proper apps, not just test apps, and it seems stable enough to me. I've noticed a couple of crashes, but they are few and far between (compared to the February CTP release).
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Cool. Do you know if there are any problems having it installed side-by-side with VS 2003?
I wish I could think of something witty to put in my sig...

No I don't, but I don't think there would be either, just like VS.NET 2002 and VS.NET 2003 can co-exist together. I havn't tested it though because I'm running it on a VirtualPC, not my main pc.

Ok, thanks.
Guess I have to try it then
Btw. (off topic) How's the performance on the Virtual PC? Is it just like a regular PC?

It's pretty good. Games are out though because of the graphics driver it emulates, other than that, it works just as good as a PC, provided your host isn't doing heaps of highly processor intensive tasks, and you've given it enough RAM to use.

What's the deal with VSTS? I was skimming through their site and all those buzzwords together in a single sentence kinda threw me off. I was tired.
Anyone explain it to me in simpler terms?

Microsoft Visual Studio Team System is designed for teams of developers. That's about all I know about it. Apparently it has all these code testing functions like unit testers and all this other stuff targeted at enterprise developers and teams of developers.
It includes things like Microsoft Visual SourceSafe and other team oriented features.
See Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2005 FAQ for more information.

Re: Visual Basic 2005 Beta 2 Released
I haven't had any problems with VS2003 and Beta 1 of VS2005 installed side-by-side, so I'm not expecting any problems with Beta 2.

right. but be careful to remove any traces of beta 1 before installing beta 2, this includes not only the IDE, but also the 2.0 framework beta 1, etc. MS has a whole list of apps you should remove before installing this beta 2

Visual Studio 2005, including Visual Studio Team System, will ship in the first half of calendar year 2005.
Do the current Betas you guys are using have VSTS with it?

I have virtual pc images of win2k3+vs2005beta but I don't have enough space to run it ( ), so I'm having to rely entirely upon your testimonials.
