In Explorer, or what it is called in English in Windows XP, Zip files is more or less treated as directories. Is there some options that I can turn off, so this won't happen? Like on good old Win2K?
Not that I have seen, but if you install a 3rd party app to handle zips windows will stop treating them as folders and let the app you set as the default viewer to open them.
The actualy problem. Is that Cute FTP is treating it as a directory too because of XP. So if I try to upload a ZIP file to my server, it uploads it as a directory...:grrrr:
ic, well. i dont use cuteftp for a long time. i advise you to use "core ftp lite", its free + dont have such problem u faced. http://www.coreftp.com/
I hoped I didn't have to switch FTP client. But I downloaded the one you linked to, and at least it works. And I hate the GUI all ready....but at least it works.
But would still be interested in a solution to the real problem though.
i c, cool.. yeah the GUI is pretty bad, but wat to do? all i need is a free one, and a functional one. so i dont pretty much care about it.
as for your cuteftp prob.... was thinking this could be not the windows problem. it might be the setting from the cuteftp, having options on exploring compressed file.
I think I have tried any setting in CuteFTP. And when I had it on Win2K I never had to change any settings from the default settings to make it work. So I guessed it had to be that it is the first time I am trying it on XP, and that XP treats my zip files as folders, and that is pretty annoying since when I am opening a folder in Explorer, the tree lists becomes VERY long, since I have a lot of zip files...
Why didn't I think of FireFTP. I actualy had it installed. I guess I was too stuck up with the actual problem.
Well I just tried it now. And the GUI is a bit better then the other app. Will try it on for some days, and see if it is unstable for me too. If not, I think I will start to use FireFTP.
I think it works fine. It took a little bit of work to figure out how it is supposed to work, but once I did, I was doing everything that I wanted to. Password protected account, and everything. I like the auto-logon feathres.
Try reassociating zip files with WinRAR. That's the Compressed Zip Folder feature of XP, though when you install WinZip, it takes the association away from it, so it doesn't happen to me. Check the associations and ensure it isn't associated in any way with anything but WinRAR.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)
