Internet Cafe's should update their computers!

I have just returned from Ireland and i went in a few Internet cafe's to send my brother at home some e-mails. The first one i went in had good computers but windows 98, the second one had very good HP computers with XP prof, the 3rd was windows 98 and very out of date computers. Who thinks computers in internet cafe's should update their computers.

I think they should update them because of these reasons

Important e-mails may need to be sent if a (e.g) buisness person is late for an important meetings but the computer is slow and crashes. Also the same reason for someone who's flight is deleyed and needs to tell a relative.

I think you should visit every one in the world to tell us the percentage of out of date cafe's. the ones in the US seem to be up to date.

I think you would have to be a prodigious idiot to use an internet cafe for those two reasons you just stated.

1. Business people would never send business documents via public channels, that would invalidate all sorts of insurance and privacy clauses.

2. That is what telephones are for. *ring ring, ring ring* Hello, my flight is delayed. Goodbye" takes 10 seconds maximum. You'd pay more in a webcafe for 10 seconds than for the long distance phone call.

At least here in Norway 99.9% of everyone between 16 and 35 have a cell phone. And they use it. A LOT.

I'm sure if theres something like an internet cafe there'll be a phone somewhere near, and you seem to be just going on about email, as long as the computer can connect to the internet it'd be able to cope with sending an email

You should have your own laptop and hook that to their network and then send your emails or do whatever it is you need to!

And tell your parents to stop worrying.

I have never had the need to use a internet cafe, but you dont need a major power house to msn/email. If i could get away with it... id use a live linux cd, so if they did manage to screw it up, all you need to do is reboot.

If i had to use windows... id prolly use 2k/xp because they are generally more stable and id use software like deepfreeze to lock down changes to the system. (or ghost the machines every month).

Most of the public phones over here you can use to access your email account.
Also, Virgin stores now have some workstations available on a pay-as-you-go basis. It's not too expensive either, so unsurprisingly Internet Cafe's are few and far between now.

You don't get internet cafes in the middle of , say, a desert. you get them in cities, cities have phones. You walk into a shop and say "can I please borrow your phone to make an urgent call to my folks back in Timbuktoo?".

Its not rocket science you know. internet cafes should not be mistaken for public utilities. They are certainly no use as an emergency comms medium.

Considering that statement, are you sure you're even old enough to be on the internet? Isn't there an age limit of 13 or something?

Those cafe places {Never been to one myself} probably aren't swimming in money, so they'll probably be extremely slow in upgrading via there own financial purchases.

Now if you were to donate something new, well I'm sure they'd be happy to recieve it.


But, if you truly insist on using uptodates, then might I suggest skipping this cafe and settling for a kinko's?

getting harder and harder to get into the labs, especially around here. even the llibrary requires a library card.
