Monitor is blinking all the time
Today, I started my WinXp machine and the monitor freezes my OS for a second and then blinks and then comes on again. What in the heck is going on? This has NEVER happened before.

Not NoteMe
The only thing i can think of is that a program (virus?) is trying to change the refresh rate / resolution to one that's unsupported by your computer.
Quotes:
"I am getting better then you guys.." NoteMe, on his leet english skills.
"And I am going to meat her again later on tonight." NoteMe
"I think you should change your name to QuoteMe" Shaggy Hiker, regarding NoteMe
"my sweet lord jesus. I've decided never to have breast implants" Tom Gibbons

or power saving option that isn't working right. is it happening after you move the mouse, or only occasionally?

change the resolution. is there a screensaver involved? disable it temporarily. maybe the resolution is getting changed for the pic.

Check to see if the connector if correct, and not half out. Then shake a little with the cable to see if there are not bad contacts

Boot into safe mode (hitting the F8 key on startup after the bios & post command checks have been completed, but before the windows splashscreen appears).
Set the monitor to 256 colours, a refresh rate of default or 60Htz and a 640x480 resolution. If you can use windows for 5-10 mins then you haven't got a problem with your monitor.
If this is the case, just keep upping each of these in turn to see what your monitor can cope with. You can right click the desktop, choose properties > settings tab, as well as the advanced button under this to get into these settings. Beneath one of the tabs in the advanced screen, there's a button called 'list all modes' which will let you see what your graphics card & monitor will support...

they list what the graphics card can support, but not the monitor. therein lies the problem.
