Changing the resolution of this monitor...

I've got a 17" monitor here. I try to set the resolution to 1600*1200, but everytime I do that, the monitor's display will go "Out of Range" (That's what it shows).

What are the factors I need to consider to see whether this monitor will actually take 1600*1200?

Is there anything I can do to make it go 1600*1200?

I seriously doubt it. Most 17" and lower sport a max res of 1280x1024. when you goto 19", then 1600x1200 starts to become available. If Windows lets you do it, then it's because it hasn't properly detected it.
