Format Tips Needed
Decided to do a spring clean this weekend and format my messed up pc. I printed some instruction guides of the net, but they arnt enough.
Ive backed everything up that i need. What i need to know is maybe a list of commands i can use at the command prompt.
For example if you load Windows from a bootdisk, it eventually comes to
A:>
in which i dont know how to proceed to load. I tried:
A:>run
A:>start
A:>boot
but nothing, im aware of FDISK. But id appreciate a list of all avaliable commands please - incase i cant get windows to load.
Cheers

I assume you are aware that a format will wipe your disk. If not that is what it will do
At the DOS prompt you may find the following commands useful:
Help on any command:
A:\> cmdname /?
List the contents of the current directory:
A:\> dir
Change directory:
A:\> cd dirname
Copy a file:
A:\> copy source dest
Edit a text file:
A:\> edit filename
Change to another drive:
A:\> C:
To format a partition:
A:\> format C:
To re-partition drive:
A:\> fdisk
If you want to repartition a drive. Do this before your reformat it. Once you have reparitioned you'll need to re-format each partition,

I don't know what you mean.
If you want to load Windows from the DOS prompt:
A:\> C:
C:\> autoexec.bat
C:\> windows\win.com

I can just imagine what kind of advice the ba$tard operator from hell would give for this problem.
Something like:
- "Oh that's easy, it'll be (flips calendar over to today's excuse) because of solar flares interfering with the IEEE 1394 RFI shielding on your rig. Have you got any conductive, non-ferrous, thermally resilient metallic sheeting with you?"
- "eh?"
- "A gum wrapper will do"
- "Oh, right"
- "OK, roll it up real small and push it through the air vent in the left side of your machine."
- (BZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzttttttttt)
Thanks to ecniv, for the link Check out that site, you'll piss yourself.

Yeah, but I thought it would be better to read the early stuff first, to get a better back-ground.
I appreciated the graduation from "Network Doom" to "Network Doom II" to "Network Quake" to "Network Quake II". I was doing that same progression in my school / college days! Brilliant. The gradual improvement of his hardware over the years was noted too.
I also see he's been playing AOE.
Top entertainment. Funniest thing I've seen on the net yet.
