NT Parallel Port Service (In XP)

    Hey guys.

One of my test and development machines is running XP Home. Since day one I have always used printers connected by USB.

For the first time I am installing (or trying!) a Parallel printer and the installer is reporting that "NT Parallel Port Service is not running".

Not being the best with Windows/Services this is throwing me completely. It works fine on all my other machines.

Where will I find this service and how to I get windows to run it each time it starts?

Thanx, in advance, for your help!

You don't need to play with services to get a parallel printer to work. Just plug it in.

Hi, and thanx for the response. Absoluetly I understand that THAT is what SHOULD happen.

But on this one machine, it doesn't!

The Parallel Port shows as connected and no problems in Device manager (i've tried uninstalling and re-installing this) but when plugging in a printer .... NOTHING!

If I then attempt a printer driver install I get the NT Service not running warning as above!

This is doing my head in!!!!!

    Thanx for you help.
