Windows (XP) Startup...
Kind of an odd question, but sometimes, when I start windows.. all the system tray icons appear like normal (and quickly), and sometimes only my anti-virus icon loads (and takes forever for windows to finish loading). Does anyone else have this problem or know what's causing this?

I also had this problem.. What seemed to be causing the problem was the things that I had in my Startup. Once everything was deleted from my Startup, with the exception of McAfee it seemed to be fine. Now I have no troubles and everything loads up quickly right away.
Good luck.

What I would do first is to make sure that you are working with a "clean" computer first.
1)check for viruses. If you dont have AV software or it is not up to date, then do an online FREE scan Here
AV software (local) is one of the first thing a worm or virus dissables(silently) so it looks like its running but it aint.
2) Run adaware & spybot search & distroy you can get then both Here
down towards the bottom of the page ( ) these are all free.
3) Then run a scanDisk & defrag.
Spyware/malware/adware etc. All these dynamic profiling uninvited "software" WILL slow your machine down to a crawl...So get rid of them first before you diagnose anything.

It's probably your AV software scanning your system for viruses.
That's why I don't use AV software, because it slows down the system it's on and I can write a malacious VB program in a few minutes that'd go undetected and cause serious harm.
