    Can't access network card

I have a NEC Versa laptop and have just installed a Network card. It is behind this plastic and there is no room for it. I'll show you on the picture attached. Is it safe to cut a hole for the network card or can I replace the modem with the network card and will the slots be the same size?

slots would be different sizes, I'd say that your best bet would be to call tech support and see what they can do and if that's no good then get a usb adapter, cutting the laptop seems like a bad decision if you ever decide to sell it later.

You will loose the warranty and even after that not sure what effect is it going to make on laptop.

Best is to use USB network card ($50 US) or PCMCIA network card which are bit costly.

    Cheers.

It's ur laptop. You can do whatever u want to do with it but as I said warranty will be void and personally I wouldn't do that.

Also if the network card can't fit into properly then it's not meant to be for that laptop.

    Cheers.

Then you should look for a network card which actually fits there and shows up outside. Just any card will not do the job.

Can you look at the picture.

Therese no hole. Nothing in that case would fit there. Do you know why Stupid NEC would do that then?
