Thats very broad...but if you know vb, and understand it (so that you can use controls even if you aren't familiar with them, sometimes) then I would recommend (bum bum bum!) Fox's site : http://www.foxmccloud.tsx.org Look at the bitblt examples. Then eventually you can learn directX (Im not there yet ) And fox has a link on his site to Voodoo VB, which has excellent stuff. Good Luck!

Judging by your question, I think BitBlt and certianly DirectX is too advanced for you at the moment. Try starting out with simple games that use controls, such as PictureBoxes then move on to API later on.
