    Talking RPG Beta testers

I don't know if this is the right place to have this, but:
I have made a new game (in Beta stage, so not all graphics/sounds made) and i was just wondering if a few (ony a few needed) people could try out an RPG i made, just to see what i need to change to make it work on all machines.

    it's address is:
    www23.brinkster.com/padster/patrpg.zip

make sure if you are interested that you 'extract' the zip, as there are folders in it that must remain as folders.

I am probably going to make this an open source project sooner or later, but first i must make it so that people will want to look at the source (probably too early for that)

If you want me to post some source so that you know it isn't a virus, i can do that too

I just really need it tested on a variety of computers.
    Thanks

    I also think it's c001!

    When will it be completed?
I traveled quite far, fought a dragon and died. It would be nice to see the monster's pictures

    Talking WOW!!!

Cool, people actually like it!!! I'm so happy

    Now, back down to earth.
Ok, in regards to updates, i've been thinking of two things.
    1) Writing it in C++. This might happen eventually, and its on its way, yet it would take a long time.
    2) Continue writing in VBasic. This would be much easier, cos i already have everything i need. (Map editor, pictures etc)
So, seeing as i've got holidays in about 4 days time, I'll give it a good shot at getting it much better.

    Thanks for the feedback anyhow

Yeah, i'm going to work on the VB side of things.

Just fyi, the improvements i had in mind:
    1) Having pictures for the opponents. (My friend does the artwork, i'm terrible at it, so i'll ask him about it)
    2) More importantly, using money. Like, purchasing weapons, shields, that sorta thing

Oh, seeing as this is in the "beta testers" part, is there anything particular u want in the game?? If so, i'll take a crack at it

How about seeing the Dragon's Icon on the map instead of going to his lair to battle him?

You might also want to make the dragon a little more powerful. I was only level 3 and I nearly beat him.

What about making it so that the player has to have special boots that allow him to walk over the lava field instead of him just going over and fighting the dragon? This might prevent an unexperienced player from reaching him so easly and by the time has the boots and does reach the dragon, they will be more experienced and maybe even stand a chance against it.

    Just a few ideas

BTW : I've also found a bug that you may already be aware of. When I load my game, the stats that you see underneath the map are all 0. When I'm actually level 3, but when I go into the stats window, it shows my stats there.

    Serious Bug...

I saved my game in slot 2 next to the dragon's lair. When I loaded it, I walked up and down a bit. The screen started to flicker and I was suddenly in Quip(The beginning town). When I walk up one block, I'm back in the lair, then it flickers again and I'm suddenly in the starting room, I walk around a bit and I'm either in the lair or Quip...

Any idea why this might have happened?

    Talking hmmm...

    Well, i'll look into it.

What probably happened is some rogue level warp that i may have forgotten about. Either that, or in the loading it loadad half of one level and half of the other, then flipped between them.

Thanks. I'll have a look. Holidays start tomorrow, so i can spend more time on it then.

Thankyou for that. What is your type of game, because perhaps i could add something to my game that would make it appeal to a wider audience.

Oh, and shops have been added for those interested, but unless i can polish it off tomorrow, i can't upload the new version till May. (Easter holidays, kinda hard to program when not in reach of computer )

    the shops

Are the shops going to be a new room on the map or a picture of a person on the map selling stuff?
