Sound quality is horrible.
My comp was hit by some virsuses so i spent the whole weekend backing up over 2000 mp3's to zip disks, reformatting my hd, reloading the OS, finding drivers for my modem and old 3dfx voodoo video card, getting my msn account back on ect ect....
Now i finally got windows media player off my system. Thank god. I decided to go back to what i used to use(winamp) I downloaded the latest version which is 3.somthing but the sound quality is crap. The Bitrate of the sound file playing makes no difference. Everything played sounds like crap. ie......... Static in the background.
Any ideas on what i could do to beef up the sound quality?

Are all the other sound applications running fine?
I'd suggest you get an older version of Winamp from www.oldversion.com Winamp3 is crap. No wait, crap is better.

Winamp 3 is a resource consuming monster.
There's probably nothing left to actually play the audio. Leaving it even more worthless than crap, as was said.
Because atleast crap can be used as fertilizer!

I can't see it using anymore resources than Windows media. With Winamp running my system memory is 75% free without it running its 76% free. .25 * 320Mb = 80Mb .24* 320Mb = 76.8. So there is a 3.2Mb difference.

I downloaded this Signal processing thingy http://www.dee2.tk/
The sound improvement is great but the noise reduction is crap.

I forgot what version of WMP i had before i reformatted. It was great with the exception of the conntection it would make at start up to get the ads for new movies comming out and such. The new version of WinAmp(version 3) is a lot more pleasing on the eyes then the older versions and i love the skins. I gotta get some music off WinMx and play an mp3 using version 3 and see if it really plays music that crappy or if it's just my mp3's that i transferred from hd to zip disk to hd.

I went back to Winpmp 2.91 which has always been good to me. ive had a couple of 1.x versions that were pretty good also but man Winamp 3 really is crap. The interface is much much better than the older 2.x series and i especially like the cross song fading feature and the music library is ten times better but it plays music like crap. So what good is a music player with a great interface but plays music like poop?
