I am currently building a customised version of the Find All Files Dialog Box - (with help from Paul Lewis - thanks Paul ).
Does anyone know how the properties of a word document are stored - ie. are they the first x number of bytes . I would like to be able to search the documents based on properties a la the advanced find dialog box in word itself.
Any help on the generalities of how word stores its properties is equally as welcome as hard code for doing this.
Cheers.

How cool
I am looking for a similar piece of information and funnily enough my search found your question which mentioned my name woohoo
So if you found a solution please let me know as I am still looking for something "easy" to determine whether a file with an arbitary name is either:
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft Powerpoint
I'm not even worried about the version at present.
I have this link for Word which is probably the only way to go unless someone has a simpler solution...
