Thread: damaged disc

    damaged disc

    hi!

    is there a way to scan my hard drive to see if there's any damaged parts and maybe even repar or tell windows not to use them? pleeeease help!

    If they are damaged, windows won't be able to use them.

    Anyway, right click on the drive and properties. Find scan disk under 1 of the tabs and use it.

    it doesnt find anything damaged...the win2k version that is...
    the win96/98/Me version do find damaged clusters (or whatever they're called) and mark them so that windows doesnt use them...

    For that you must use the "scan surface" option. And if an error is found by W98, w98 marks that cluster, and the next time that cluster won't be check.

    When Windows discover bad sectors after doing the scan , then they are marked and isolated from being read/write .

    but does the win2k scandisc mark any bad clusters? i dont think so because i have alot of problems with my hard disc and scandisc says nothing about anything being damaged

    When you did the scan , did you have 'Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors' option selected ? look at the image below :
