Norton Systemworks All the WAY! Ive never like McAfee, the computer would be very slow at school with it loaded.

F-Secure. Fast and spartan. Though I might try Trend PC Cillin.

I personally use McAfee ASAP. It is absolutely superb.
It sits in the system tray, and you just can't break the thing.
It works - simple as that. It download dat and engine updates automatically, and even over a dialup connection I haven't noticed any degredation in performance.
And it doesn't make my laptop any slower at all.
It truly is a work of art!

Don't use outook, know what you download, and you don't need a virus-scanner. I have none for 2 years, I run a online once and a while but never had any.

There's nothing wrong with Microsoft Outlook. Its a superb application!
I've always used Outlook for my email, both corporate and at home, and have always used McAfee.
Never had a virus myself.

I'd choose Norton.
Don't use the standard Norton Antivirus (the one that comes with Systemworks, etc). Get Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition - it's much less resource intensive.

I don't say there there is anything wrong with Outlook, but it is the most used email-client (sertainly professional) so most virus-makers will try tohack that

I prefer McAfee too, easy to update (especially with autoupdates) scans everything, I mean, even monitors outlook sending/receiving. Nothing seems to get past it. Can't beat it in my opinion.

Mcafee, without doubt!
Symantec are the most widely advertised and sold, because large corporate firms such as PC World etc can make a huge profit on them. PLEASE take everyone's advice and choose Mcafee.
The newest releases of Mcafee also include a firewall, which is also very good! The only other i'de ever use is Sygate. They make the best software on the market, and the service is second to none!
Quick message to ToasT...
I don't mean to offend, but that's a really stupid method to follow! You don't run a virus checker, and you say you've never had a virus??? How do you know, if there's no program to report it to you? Most viruses are none destructive, and are simply designed to report back data about your system. IE internet cache, certain sites you visit & how often, what you type in e-mails etc. Half the time users are not aware of a virus until an advanced user or anti-virus software reports it! That's the whole idea! It's narrow-minded people like you which help spread viruses across the net... because you are an easy target!
I totally agree with PlenderJ... Mcafee is stable beyond the extreme, and updates come quick and often! Exactly what you'de expect from a company as big as they are!
Regards,
Paul.

Norton scans outgoing and incoming email. I use Outlook Express and its great. And fo tyou who dont have a virus scanner I have one think to ask -- ARE YOU NUTS?! Therse days you need a virus scanner. A virus could be hidden so that the online scanners arent catching it, they still need to install an ActiveX component to scan your system. The virus could modify it so it wont detect it. Take my advice and get a virus scanner.
NORTON ROCKS!

Outlook truely sucks ass. When you use Outlook for a while, and then change to something else, it is like an entirely new e-mail experience. A much more pleasant one at that!

That isn't a stupid method. It takes common sence not to get infected with something.
If you lack common sence, keep a virus scanner running. Otherwise you don't need it.
The last time I got a virus was about 5-6 years ago. I was running McAfee at the time, and I was really bored. My friend and I were collecting an un-godly amount of viruses on a Zip disk, so I decided to infect my computer with ALL of them to see what would happen. McAfee only caught about half of them.
I have yet to get infected with ANYTHING unless I did it on purpose like I did 5-6 years ago, and I am almost ALWAYS downloading stuff, trading, ect....
Few years ago when I built this computer, I threw Norton on it since my Parents were using it, just incase (they are computer illeterate). Since then I haven't uninstalled it because it doesn't take up much resources at all (and I'm lazy ). Haven't gotten anything.
Using McAfee products before and Norton, I personally think Norton is much much better. McAfee was ALWAYS slower when detecting a virus, where as Norton always seems to find it almost immediately. Both are extremely easy to update (Norton automatically does it by itself). I would definatly go Norton over McAfee any day with anti-virus software.
Firewalls are an entirely different matter. Norton's firewall (corporate edition, mind you) really sucks the cock. If you type in .htaccess on like a forum, and then come back, it gives an "intrustion alert" saying someone tried a .htaccess exploit. It also has MAJOR issues with references.

To secure my PC, I use simply the Best, wich I name by the following:
Norton Antivirus 2004
&
BlackIce 3.6
If you get past threw any of those two, BlackIce will store your IP... and lets just say there are a lot of things you can know of someone threw an IP....!

I use NOD32, it's the best i found, much better than Norton and Mcaffee, very fast scanning times and very little resource required, requires pretty much no setup and scans POP mail automatically without porting your mail client through it, very nice.
Outlook truely sucks ass. When you use Outlook for a while, and then change to something else, it is like an entirely new e-mail experience. A much more pleasant one at that!
Yeah, change from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2003, it's soooooo good.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Do you really think £50 worth of software is going to successfully secure a system? Think again...
Norton is unstable, buggy... and can be easily compromised. BlackICE is good, but still not good enough for me to trust.
What do you mean... there's a lot you can know through someone's IP? You can only gather important information if you haven't blocked ports using a good firewall. If you think ICMP'ing someone is valuable data... you can't knowledgable when it comes to security.
We've spent a few thousand on securing the systems here... but I still wouldn't call our software 'the best'!
L L... yeah, I know, maybe not the best but still very good to my opinion... , I really luv BlackIce for a firewall, didn't saw better yet, and for norton, well I didn't use many virus scanners, but it's auto-protect and virus information online support is very usefull... So, you have any suggestions of 20000$ virus scanners? Don't think I can afford them, but I'd like to take a look at what they can do

Well here is my 2 cents.
Norton is the best in my opinion. I had McAfee several years back and I got hit by 2 viruses, bothing being 2 months apart, ever since I chose to go with Norton and havnt had any problems.

I figured it out. Get em all. One of the programs will always get virus definitions before the others.

That'd be good, but you can't do that, they would all access the same file at the same time and your computer would stuff up. All (good) virus scanners warn you about this before installing.

If he has lost the key, he can approach Mcafee and they will issue him with another copy (unless it has expired). Certainly don't use Astaserials or alike to get a crack'd copy!!!

Your right, i dont crack anyway. It would take 2 minutes to laod Kazaa, download a crack/serial whatever. And would take about 2 hours to download Mcafee Pro or whatever. Theres no point in cracking, they offer excellent virus protection, me cracking it just doesnt do them any favours at all. Id rather use a different Scanner for now, it makes no difference if Mcafee is expired or not, i lost it simple as that. Even the original packing
