    celeron processor recommendations

    Anything wrong with one of these (Celeron) for a college student whose degree requires lots on word processing (non engineering)?

    Looks like a lot of cash to be saved ... does word processing and spreadsheet type work benefit from a Pentium?

    Unless you plan on *really* hammering your spreadsheets, the Celeron should do you fine.

    Thanks Parksie ... I guess all the functionality is the same just a bit lower speed?

    A relative in college asked me for the recomendation, so Ill pass it along. The reason I am "gunshy" is that I remember the old SX series processors (386SX or 486SX or both ... I cant remember) that were cheaper in prices, but actually wouldnt run some applications because of a math coprocessor with limited functionality.

    You will notice the slowness of XP loading , though it's good for that purpose !

    Why not look into AMD's? I prefer them myself. 1/4 of my computers in an Intel the rest are AMD.

    You should check out Computer Shopper August 2003 "Straight A Systems" page 102. The celeron systems from DELL(Inspiron 1100 $899) and IBM(ThinkPad R40e $859) are pretty affordable.

    I don't think that they have built in 802.11b WiFi but then again i guess you could just by that separately.
