Question How to DOWNLOAD A .doc????

This is a stupid question but how do you download a form from a server? I tried putting the name of the document and when the user clicks on the link the page opens, I would rathr have the form prompt the user with Save/Open/Cancel... how can i do this?

Put a line of text above or below the link telling them to right click and choose 'Save Target As'

There must be a simpler way than that...

That is the simple way. I'm sure you could modify the configuration files for the server so that it'll treat the .doc file differently. That would be the hard way.

If you have access to the MIME settings for the server, you still probably wouldn't be able to prevent it from opening in the browser.

It's best you ZIP the file so that it gets downloaded. Or do as HOBO said, tell the users what to do.

Hey, the dumber people need that feature. And according to the official dumb people statistics, they far outnumber the non-dumb people.

    sort off

new browsers open all sorts of files in their own window..
old browsers just download it.. so YOU can do with it what you want..

most new browsers just look at the file and: O .. it's a doc... let's open it
