    Norton Antivirus on Boot

    Hi,
    I have Norton Antivirus installed and I've recently corrupted my registry. I've restored the registry, but it's a rather old backup. When i turn on the computer, before Windows has been loaded, a screen comes up and says that the virus definitions can't be found. I push the spacebar and it goes away and windows loads normally. I've looked at my boot-sector but I don't see anything related to Norton. Any ideas as to how I can get rid of that screen?

    Try uninstalling/reinstalling Norton.

    Change the Run map in the registry.....or is that what you call the boot sector. BTW what OS are you on?

    The boot sector is a bunch of sectors at the beginning of a drive that allows the system to boot.

    You probably know that though...meh.

    That was what I thought, but wasn't 100% sure....then you better check the Run cataloge in the registry...

    I would go with this option but before that try to update the product with Live Update and see if it fixes it...

    If he has the same problems like me on the machine with Norton. It would not uninstal it if it had a problem, and it would not install a new copy of over the old one, because it can find the old one. So I had to delete all the 100*n entries in the registry...hehehe...that is what I call fun....

    Old copies of Norton check your computer before Windows boots. What I'm thinking is that he had an old copy, installed a new copy, and then restored the registry that had the old copy still on.

    Uninstall Norton, install the old version, uninstall the old version, and reinstall the new one.
