Back from Iraq! and I need a little Help.

Just got back from Iraq, kind of funny, I think my last post here was when I left for boot. Anyways, I need some help, I've been out of the computer loop for a while so I don't know what the best anymore. Can someone please suggest a partition manager that works good. Also how much of a difference in speed would there be if I flipped all the info on my hard drive to 0's and then installed windows, as apposed to just formating it then installing it. Also I have $3,000 I'm looking at spending on a top of the line laptop, any suggestions. One last note, if you could mention any other progams to help speed up windows XP, it would be appreciated.

In my opinion the best partition manager is from
    Powerquest: Partition Magiq V8.

For backups they have Drive Image 2002 and that's also
    a great program.

Tools for speeding up XP, look after tweaks for xp on the internet, there are many tweaks.

    There'is a program called HDD eraser V5.6.

    Look for eraser.

If running windows xp, before formatiing the drive, read this article about WPA ( Windows Product Activation

    Animelion,
First, WELCOME BACK! As an American that treasures the Freedoms I have, I am very grateful for your sacrifices made on behalf of all peoples that abhor tyranny.

In my opinion, there really is nothing better out there than Power Quests Partition magic. Simple to use and does what exactly what it says it will. I have used it several dozens of times, and have never had a problem or lost any data!
As for laptops, I personally have a Sony VAIO. It is an exceptional machine and their customer service and Help desk people are wonderful.

For the laptop , http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...le%20Computers , get the one that gives you what you really need . They are maybe quite expensive but Toshiba is well worth it .

I've not had much experience with Partition Magic, but I"ve used it twice and it works.
    Sounds like everyone likes it.

As for the laptop, we have a VAIO also and it suits its purposes well.
I have had no trouble with it although if I was traveling, I would be wary
that it may break. I've taken it on a couple of trips, but our old dell latitudes
feel much sturdier and have been proven.

Depends on what you need it for, and how you plan on treating it.
I'd try and stay around $2000 and
    buy a used motorcycle instead.
    Merry Christmas

If you have $3K USD then look at a Centrino.
