American Radio Stations
Why do *all* American Radio Stations have a "K" or a "W" in their name?

I don't know the reason for choosing those particular letters, but I do know that east of the Mississippi River, radio and TV stations begin with W, and west of the Mississippi they start with K. Aside from that, not a clue.

It's a Rubert Murdock conspiracy to control the number of broadcast outlets.
If a station's id has to start with a "K" or "W" and be followed by 3 other letters that only allows for 35152 TV and Radio stations. A pittance for the size of this country...

Leave Richard Kane alone! Apparently he's got nothing to do with it.

I am no Ham freak, but I do have a reasonably fair idea now.

American airports all begin with K, except for the ones in Alaska and Hawaii which begin with P...which has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Well their codes. Like Los Angeles International is KLAX, but most know it as LAX.

Not quite. It's ICAO (International Civil Aviation Org) code is KLAX as you say, but it's IATA (International Air Transport Association) code certainly is LAX.
The IATA code is the one that goes on your ticket and on the baggage label.
