Plug N Play / USB problem
Im having a nightmare installing a printer to my PC. It uses a USB connection. The first time I connected it the plug n play activated but i didn't have the driver disk handy. Now I cannot get either the plug n play to re-activate or establish a connection to the printer as only LPT ports are available. Can someone please suggest something for me, im losing faith in microsoft.

Hmm , try to remove it from the system panel , then either rescan or it should rescan for new hardware .

I had trouble installing my Epson color 777. It would always look to the parallel port for the printer even though I had it connected to the USB port. I disabled my parallel port in the BIOS and problem solved. It was detected on the USB port and the drivers installed OK. After I was done I just turned the parallel port back on so I could use my second printer.
PC performance buffs have long measured hardware advances using a few simple metrics: Is it faster? Is it bigger? Does it have more blinky lights?

I managed to fix it. I tried disabling the enabling but that didn't work. I attached a digital camera to the usb port, this fired up the pug n play and must have over written some note that the OS had made about my previous attempt to install the printer, I then attached the printer and hey presto, the plug n play for the printer came up. It installed ok and works. So for future reference, try installing something else then go back to your original device. thanks very much for the help guys.

newer OSs like win2k and XP handle USB much much better than older OSs like 98/me
