    LCD vs. Plasma

Im not really sure if this is a computer related question since i have yet to see a plasma computer monitor but i have noticed that all of the smaller thin format tv's i have seen are Lcd's and the big flat panels are plasma. Whats the difference?

I think Plasma probably has less clarity than LCD, as LCDs of that size would cost exponential amounts as they'd be able to perfectly reproduce resolutions like 16000x9000.... costing a lot more, no? This is what I'd think, because since nothing is that resolution anyway, they don't need the same clarity as the smaller ones; however they all have the same thin profile.

But if nothing is that resolution anyway then why would the smaller tv's use Lcd's when they could use the cheaper Plasma?
I guess since the smaller tvs offer a smaller viewing area(which makes them less expensive) they can make them with the added cost of an Lcd. Perhaps?

Smaller screens use LCD because of the cripsness (ie: higher dpi)

No, as the size of the TV gets bigger, but the size of the input doesn't, less clarity is needed per unit of space. Therefore the larger ones can be less crisp than the smaller ones (which need to be more crisp).

We rent out a lot of plasma screens.
We use the 48" or 52" plasmas at shows where you'd put up a few on a stand so people can see things from a distance.

But up close, the resolution is totally crap.
You'd get a headache trying to work with a plasma as a monitor.

I don't mean to be picky... but the better the quality of picture, the LOWER the DP (dot pitch), not DPI.

DP is the distance between each pixel... therefore lower is better.

    I know...

You don't have DPI as such with a monitor... it's refered to as DP (Dot Pitch). Which gets lower as the quality goes up.
