Configure 2nd Hard Drive
Hi
I have installed a second hard drive on my PC and will be used to hold audio data only. I have set the jumpers accordinly (Slave) and used the PCs CMOS to identify it - no problem.
The Operating System is Windows ME and the PC Boots perfectly.
My question is:
How do i partition/format this drive so that I can allocate a new Drive Letter for it thus enable me to access it?
With Windows XP (on another PC) I was able to partition/format a second Hard Drive using the Disk Management utility thats installed with XP.
Is there a Disk Management utility with Windows ME?
thanks

You can use Partition magic or FDisk (I hate it though) .

If there's nothing on the drive, use fdisk. It's pretty easy to figure out. I just used it for the first time a month or so ago.

your drive should have come with a floppy that lets you do partitioning and all that.

Not if you bought a hard disk it shouldn't The days of needing those were over...so I hoped.
Since ME is still DOS-based, you're going to need to use fdisk, only way I can see you getting at that is with a startup floppy.

I still haven't found a way to get DOS with ME, aside from sticking in a startup disk.
I swear, as soon as I can, I'm getting rid of this damned OS...

Go for 2000, if you can use it with your hardware.

I plan to as soon as I can shell together some cash.
I am planning to put together a new PC, so I'll probably purchase 2000 for it.

Hobo: I got XP Pro OEM for $229 with the purchase of a DVD-ROM drive. I suggest finding a similar deal somewhere with 2k Pro, as it will be a lot cheaper and with something you're buying anyway. That's CAD, by the way, so it was a pretty good deal

Thanks for the link.
I'm probably just going to have to run an old copy of 98 on it until I can afford to buy an OS.

I appreciate his viewpoint, as for most things I am with that myself (I do still have about 30 illegal mp3s on my disk, though).
