Windows 2K - Corrupting ZIP files

I have just re-installed Win2K on an old 800Mhz Athlon, and it keeps corrupting .ZIP files. It's wierd!

I have run MSD and Memtest86, which returned no faults. The hard drives are fine, and the file itself works on other systems!

    The system:
    AMD Athlon 800Mhz
    512mb SDR
    40Gb 7200
    4Gb 5400
    Geforce III Ti500 64mb DDR
    Win2k No SP's yet...

Anyone care to share a solution?

    Regards,

    Paul.

Is that corrupting on write, or on read? As in, you download a zipfile, can't read it, works on another box, or can't read it anywhere?

    On read M8...

I downloaded the Canon BJC2100 W98 drivers from the UK site, and it seems to be corrupt when you open it! When i tried it on the laptop, it worked fine.

Tried again on the system, and it's corrupt again.

This problem has really got me confused! :]

The system has just been clean installed from a low level format, just incase there were any boot sector viruses rooted anywhere! It still doesn't bl**dy work!

    Regards,

    Paul.

Is it *only* zip files, or do others get corrupted? Zipfiles will be more obvious because they have internal error checking.

Only ZIP's as far as I know...

What would cause it? I've tried updating WinZIP, and even tried WinRAR... neither work.

If i post the link, could you take a look at the file, and see if it opens on yours?

    I can't virus check the file, but it's directly from Canon.co.uk (BJC 2100 Win98)

    Cheers...

I'm not on Windows, so unless it's some issue with the file itself...

Thanx NoteMe, but it's not the file!

I'm certain it's the system, but what's failing is totally behond me!

Good job it's not the file... it's 12.6mb!

Has anyone experienced this with Win2k before?

Honestly... you start to think your on top of 99% of problems and errors, and Microsoft hits you with another one which cannot be solved! Pfft.

    Regards,

    Stressed Paul.

OT: And hence why I prefer Unix...when things die, you frequently know who's to blame

But...I have never seen Win2K randomly do this, especially when that same file works on another system.

Have you tried using the same file remotely, as in, served off your "faulty" box?

Throw on an SP and see what happens? This is one of those problems that goes in the "Mystery" category.
