I am trying to find out how the spiders work when they encounter a page that has a SSI file included.

I assume that the complete page is resolved before the spiders do their work, but I have a nagging doubt that they may ignore the contents of the SSI ... or does it depend on the spider?

Does anyone have any hard facts on this topic.

I don't give in that easily!!! Perhaps I should re-phrase my question.

I have a web page that includes a couple of SSI files. These SSI files contain some stuff that I want indexing by the search engine spiders. Will the spiders resolve the complete page before they start their indexing, or do they operate purely on the raw html file? Or does it depend on the particular spider?

The SSI is processed by the Server before it is served to any browser/download program/spider whatever. The spider will receive the page with the SSI page already included by the server.

Praise me. (I answered your question.) Like you sould.

I knew someone would get bored with my posting and give in. It was just a matter of time...

Praise be to Matthew. I knew something good would come out of Scouseland eventually.

I think deep down that I already knew the answer to this but I just had these nagging doubts.

Oh well, better a nagging doubt than a nagging wife.

    Cheers pal.
