But what is a emulator? i have heard of it..but i dont know what it does.

It's something that lets you play SNES and NES and Sega on your PC.

Most of the time they are written in ASM or something...

It won't let you `plug in` the games to your computer, but you can download some games...

I have only used an emu. once or twice at school...

Ah, yes. Emulators.

Emulators are indeed nifty programs, but at the moment are a bit of a gray area in the legality end of things. Still, you can find a lot of Emulators and games (called ROMS) to run on them at http://www.emux.com and http://www.classicgaming.com .
