Yes microangelo allows transparency, infact any decent icon creating software should have transparency in them as standard.

PhotoShop is perfect in that area . I've read an article takes about creating XP Icon styles . I don't think IrfanView can makes icons .

    IrfanView

IrfanView allows you to save it as the .ico type file. Photoshop doesn't to my knowledge. Can you tell me where i can find that info if it does?

    i can make Icons

I can make icons with IrfanView...I want to make icons that allow me to see threw parts of it. You know? Like AIM's icon or Internet Explorer. There has to be a certian color, like purple or maybe Hex #669966 that if you make that color the background windows will just make it see thru.

I don't have PhotoShop installed right now , but you can size the image as icon size and then save it as .bmp . Open it in IrfanView and save it as .ico .

IrfanView has the ability to resize images : click Image menu then resize . There you can resize it to icon size .
