    Installing VB.NET Standard on Win98 (need help)

    Hi,
    I am new to this forum and was wondering if someone would be willing to point me in the right direction. I have already installed all critical updates as well as the .NET Framework. I think I need to update my install files or something like that. Anyone know what I should be looking for?

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Programs created with VS or VB.NET can run on windows 98 but the IDE Environment can not, it requires Windows 2000 or higher. Sorry, you can search around the web for a free IDE that may work on Windows 98.

    VB.NET will work on 98 Programs created in VB.NET will work but not VB.NET itself.

    Thanks guys,

    I have XP Pro installed on my Laptop and it works fine there. I was thinking of putting it on my desktop computer. Thanks for the heads up.

    One last question,

    I know there is a HUGE issue about the .NET Framework currently not being found on most computers (since most people don't update Windows --myself included--).

    Did anyone make a process where the install of the application included .NET Framework? Cause I just downloaded the .NET Framework. It took two hours! Stupid modem

    Even I don't have time to sit around that long. What should I do?

    There is a redistributable version included with the VS discs or you can download it. Then you can burn it to CD with your app if you want.

    VS meaning Visual Studio? I have Visual Basic.NET Standard. Do you think it would be found there?

    Am I right to think of VS as MS Office and VB.NET as Word? ...meaning that Visual Basic.NET is just one part of Visual Studio?

    Yes that is correct. I don't know if it is on the VB.NET discs too or not but since it should be part of the install for VB.NET you'd think it would be. Its called dotnetfix or something like that or you can search for the 'dot net redistributable' on the web and download it.

    I'd like to add that Win 2000 users need at least SP1 installed in order to have VS.Net to work.

    I found it. Dotnetfx.exe was on the VB.NET Component Update CD. Great!
