flash in flash

Hi, I'm trying to import a .swf file in a .fla file but when I do
(file>import...> ) all i get is a whole load of frames without any animation. I just want to import the thing, no editing needed.
I have flash 4 + flash mx

When you import a .swf file into flash, it will import each frame, not the actual workings of it all, like you would find with a .fla file.

Its like opening an .exe with vb, its just not gonna work.

A good idea is to import the .swf into a movie clip, so you can move it around and edit it easier.
