    Slow Network-solved

I have a problem with my local network. I am using Windows 98SE and Windows XP Pro. When browsing the WIndows XP Pro MAchine from the 98 Machine the speed is fast but when I try to access the 98 machine from the XP machine it's either slow or it freezes up explorer on the XP machine.

I need help! Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
    Michael

Yes... this is 100% the wrong spot. However, you may want to try upgrading each operating system to the latest service packs and updates. Next, what type of network cards are in each? What type of network cable are you using? What type of hub/switch are you using? Etc Etc..

I have a DLINK DFE530 in the 98 Machine and a build in SiS Card in the XP machine, both capable of 10/100MBps. However I force the XP machine to 10MBps Full Duplex and the 98 machine to 100MBps Full Duplex. I use cat5 network cable with a Linksys router with 4 port built-in switch. I disable DCHP in the router and I specify my own ip address (192.168.1.x)
