Ey up y'all - question bout Webcams and LANs [RESOLVED]
Hiya - hope you're all well and feeling festive.
Quick question for ya. At my church, there is a computer IN the church, and three computers in the house next to it, all networked together. We want to fit a webcam to the computer IN the church, and be able to view the picture (real-time video if poss) on all the computers networked to it in the house. I've been thinking about this, and I'm not convinced it's possible to network a USB PORT as such, and the only solution I can think of is to set up a permenant webcast, which can be connected to by the others in the LAN.
Can anyone offer any other solutions that would be more efficient, or would the webcast be the best option? If so, does anyone know of any free software for this purpose?
Thanks in advance.

Netmeeting. Just set it to accept connections in the church building, and only allow connections from computers within the network. I believe there is a way to do it.

the software from camerades.com will do it. put that software on the computer with the cam. it acts as a webserver. when you log in to the webserver you get a jpg with (i'm guessing) improper headers that causes the image to be constanly updated (probably by including a height in the header and keep transmitting new image data)
you'll have to iron out the details, it's been a while since i've done this

Thanks - we've actually got it working with Netmeeting now, but thanks for your ideas.
