hmmm i agree that some people just did posts to get guru's or attempted too..
so here is a little solution i thought off..
guru shoudn't be disabled and controled by the dictators(ooops)
but seriously i think that each reply someone makes
it should be voted
like if i post "how do i display a message box"
and some dude comes along and says
msgbox "hi mom"
then at the bottom of the message
i should be able to rate that using a 5 point system
1, 2, 3, 4 , 5
and guru status should be obtained from these points
POINT SYSTEMS - users get to pick their gurus

That won't work!!
we (well, I didn't bring it up, but I saw the thread) brought this up before.
If 2 people were friends,
They would most likely always vote 5,
even if the answer didn't deserve it.
and if I answered dimava's(my sworn enemy) post, since we don't like(READ: HATE WITH A VENGEANCE!!!!) each other, he may not give me all the credit the answer deserved.......
and thats #3, I can't beleive I answered another of your posts... seriously

dennis is afraid
since have ONLY seen ONE i repeat ONE reply from dennis that ACTUALLY tried to answere someones question
o boy will dennis be in trouble if this voting took place
no matter HOW you go about it
someone will abuse the system to get guru
if dictators give guru status... they might not do it right either since (assuming they only scan the forum)
i think we should go to voting polls
vote people who DESERVE guru (dont even know how a guru makes a difference...)
but i have some people in mind that DEFINATELY deserve anythign we can give them
always answer questions and do it in detail to make sure you undrestand...

kovan get over it
These topic gets covered every few weeks.
John and/or James decide on guru status, and that is all she wrote. Start the topic in chit chat if you want to.

Yawwwwn... Programming for dummies
I think they should just scrap all of it.
Try hard programmers still insecure of their abilities looking for a short cut to a title. Toddlers with Compilers.
They should just have everyone is a MEMBER except admin staff or maybe special guests and chuck the post count! I mean what are we really doing here?
There is forum which I think uses an older version of the forum software used here at http://www.powerbasic.com/support/forums/Ultimate.cgi and that's how it works and nobody complains.
Admittedly I have seen very few 'try hard' kids trying to prove an image there. They're ex C programmers and VB pros who user a compiler that doesn't hold your hand as much as VB does but produces better software (no OO but you can have pointers, inline ASM and stand alone exes and dlls under 10k), if you don't know what WinMain() is then stay away.
I'm here to learn by asking questions and looking at other people's questions (and trying to answer them) and consider the guru stuff a bit of a novelty, something to keep the kids occupied so to speak.
I'm with Jethro, Get over it guys!!!

Code:
Goto VBThunder

VBThunder:
If VT.Understood = True Then You.Status = ShouldBe("Guru")
Happy?

.IsHighlighted = False
End With
With Goto
.ShouldbeHighlighted = True
.IsHighlighted = False
End With

If it weren't for these "dictators" we wouldn't even have the privilege of these forums. Call them what you want but it's ultimately thier choice.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! For the moment, we will be sticking with the same 'dictator' controlled system.
