Please help with AOL Mail
I have a customer who has approx 900 e-mails stored on his laptop on AOL (V7 I think).
The problem is that the laptop needs to be reformatted. Does anynoe know how I can save all the e-mails and re-import them onto another PC. Preferably into Outlook Express but if that can't be done, then back into AOL on the new machine.
I have searched through Google but cam up with nothing.
I have never use AOL and never likely too but this guy needs these e-mails.
Anybody?

Why not just copy it to a Floppy, burn it to a cd, or chuck the emails onto a network?
Maybe even upload them onto the net? But... security wise u might have abit of trouble finding a reliable host...

I would be quite happy to burn them onto a CD if I could find out how to do it.
I dont want to go through everyone individually, I need to be able to save all 900+ (some with attachments)

Why not just copy the folder onto a CD-RW. Assuming of course u have a CD Burner...

No, I can read all the e-mails when the PC is off-line.

I don't see an option to export or import. AOL seems to have it's own very limited mail client.
Looks just like a list box with no options. Even if you click on a mail message, the only option you get is to delete.

Sorry, I don't know. There are no property settings. If I was to compare it to Outlook though, only a few MB.

You'll have to find where the emails are saved... cause u might be able to zip them, and chuck them on a floppy.
And for those that are to large, chuck them on the net...

I can burn them on a CD if I can find the files. I am just worried about importing them back into the new machine. I hate AOL.

You shouldn't have a problem... if you have it set up exactly the same as last time?
Look under Program Files, other wise, do a search for the filename of one of emails or something.
Never used Aol... so...

Not really too familiar with AOL mail. It is a pop3 client? Is he using outlook now or AOL's mail thing? Outlook's mail is just stored in a pst file and that would be very easy to move and merge later.
Does AOL have an on-line knowledge base for developers?
Sorry Mega-man, wish I knew more to tell you.

Resistance is futile, you will be compiled . . . Please!

I doubt you will be able to export them to ANYTHING let alone OE. However you maybe able to save these messages if they are in your personal file cabvinent(or wahtever they call it now).
other wise i suggest you copy the aol user folders(shoudl be 1 for each screen name) and then re install, add in your screen names and then copy the folder back in.
btw- to all the people suggesting him to burn the files, read the posts clearly before jumping in like he was asking a stupid question, i think he knows he needs to get the files off the hard drive, he just didnt know what the files where he needed.
