Are any of these really Indie? I thought they were all precursors to the Indie movement, really.
My favourite Indie bands are: the Stone Roses, PJ Harvey, the Wedding Present, Teenage Fanclub and the Pixies.
Everything I say is either loose interpretation of dubious facts or idle speculation rooted in irrational sentiment.

Indie, meaning independent labels.... The Pixies hark back way before teh early 90s don't they?

Only to the late 80's. That was the time of the indie movement really anyway...It was all changing by the early nineties...

isn't it supposed to change?
I mean, late 80's early 90's a lot of attention was paid to these
"indie" bands (esp. ones from Seattle) but it all died down quite a bit
by the mid 90's.
but that's the way it goes, the next big thing needs to come into the limelight
via a slightly different route than the previous.
While I've suggested burning things that resemble fruits and vegetables as the
"New Thing" all my friends that are in bands have avoided my advice.
but hey, maybe I"m ahead of my time.
