    Invalid System Disk

Screwing around with an old computer, I get:

    Invalid system disk
Please replace disk and press any key
when attempting to boot. Only thing is, the floppy drive is disabled in BIOS and it's unplugged.

    What gives?

Your harddrive has no system information on it.

You think that would solve the problem?

No, but at this point and time all I want is revenge. Revenge against the hard drive.

After I get it, then I'll worry about solving the problem

Just incase, you should check the boot sequence in your BIOS to see if something isnt buggered or just in the wrong order.

As long as it has C: as boot device, it'll boot it.

    No matter what's before.

Insert a DOS boot diskette and fdisk your harddrive.

Or, a better solution, put in a Windows CD, boot the CD. and partition/format it that way.

plug ur floppy drive in, chuck in a dos boot disk, and when u get a prompt, type without quotes:
    "format c: /q /s"
this does a quick format and copies command.com to the drive, which is then bootable. all a HDD needs is command.com to be bootable. then install wateva OS u need.

I've tried this before, but I can't get the Linux partition off and Windows can't install with it on.

I think Win2k might be able to, but I need a boot disk for it and the floppy drive on this computer is screwed...

I'll just have to fix my problems one at a time.

It may be that it's TRYING to boot from A: and then since it's not connected it's buggering out... depends on how old the computer is, I don't think it's really an issue anymore (but believe me, it used to be with some Tandys and junk)

You can install Win2k directly from CD (as long as you have the option to boot from CD on the computer!)

Well, make sure the CD drive is selected as a boot device before your HD and while you're at it just tell it not to even try and boot from the HD.

Also, don't ever EVER count out a bad cable. I have spent many days on problems that ended up just being a bad cable.
