www.editplus.com or just get your hands on a free copy of JBuilder from Borland's site. Then again you could always just use good old notepad.

Editplus makes me feel pretty on the inside, without all the calories.

winhex http://www.sf-soft.de/winhex/index-m.html is a pretty good memory editor, i got a shareware copy of it, i'm not sure if you can still get it but i t was good enoguh for me to retrieve my internet passwird (which i had forgotten ) before i reformatted my computer
but isn't this the wrong forum to be asking this question considering that java is platform independent and you don't get anymore more dependent than memory editting?
PS: more info...
WinHex runs under Windows 95[a/b/c], Windows 98 [SE], Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. WinHex 7.54 is the last version to support Windows 3.1x
