Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted

anything I can do about that or am I ****ed?

Last night it was fine; go to log in this morning and I get that. Had to use a "temporary" (as Windows calls it) user account all day. All my settings/desktop stuff/emails are gone...how can I uncorrupt this piece of ****?

ZoneAlarm won't load either, gives me some **** about "waiting for true vector service to start" but apparently it never ****ing does.

I am pissed off, seriously pissed off...

Well, I've heard rumors that ZoneAlarm's true vector stuff is some kind of spyware. Anyway, if your last shutdown was clean, maybe run chkdsk or something to check your drives. Can you get at your profile folder (C:\Documents and Settings\username for W2K or C:\WINNT\Profiles\user for NT4) and recover some of your files - maybe just the HKCU registry chunk is corrupt?

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

hmm, spyware you say? Any alternative software firewalls you know of?

I can get into the profile folder from another admin account on the machine, so I copied My Documents etc across.

I just ran chkdsk, didn't come up with anything

What can I do to check the registry? All MS suggest is deleting the account and making a new one which isn't very helpful

Any idea where the Outlook Express mails and account settings are stored? I really rather need them back

    Thanks

    Take a look in here:
    Code:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\<some GUID>\Microsoft\Outlook Express
Just grab all of those files, copy them somewhere, and re-create your account. Set up a new account, find its corresponding folder, and copy the files you copied from the original into the new folder. All of your mails should have survived =). I dont know about address book entries though. I dont know if they are stored there, or somewhere else, etc.
