Splash Form - My contribution to the community

Would you like to acheived this?

if you didn't see the image, try these links
    http://emiliano.itgo.com/Temp_Images/Splash.GIF
    http://www.geocities.com/emiliano_martin/Splash.gif
    http://www.russellsplace.com/variant...es/splash1.gif

Ok, here's the OCX to do the gradient line that moves on the bottom of the form... all the rest would be your job.

    Available Properties:

Count: Number of boxes between the initial and final color.

FinalBlue: Number in the range 0–255, inclusive, that represents the blue component of the final color.
FinalGreen: Number in the range 0–255, inclusive, that represents the green component of the final color.
FinalRed: Number in the range 0–255, inclusive, that represents the red component of the final color.

InitialBlue: Number in the range 0–255, inclusive, that represents the blue component of the initial color.
InitialGreen: Number in the range 0–255, inclusive, that represents the green component of the initial color.
InitialRed: Number in the range 0–255, inclusive, that represents the red component of the initial color.

Interval: Returns/sets the number of milliseconds between each movement of the line.

ShiftEnabled: Enabled the ability to move the gradient line.

Please, any suggestion to improve this free OCX will be welcome. All I'm asking are ideas to improve it, and compliments (if any)

I know it's a lousy GIF, but I "compressed" it in order to get a "downloadable" file (154 KB). Hope you like it. I also know I've already post it... but I guess this way will be seen by more people ;-)

Source is always good, for others to learn from, and to be able to fix up the bugs when they appear.

Sorry, I left the source at work. And I'm not coming back until Monday. However, in the Splash.Zip of this thread you can see part of it.

It's not the source of the OCX there because I created after that, but that's the code I used to do it.

However... there's some differences. For example: I have three constants for the RGB of the initial color and 3 constants for the difference between the RGB's initial and final color.

In the OCX I have 3 properties for the RGB of the initial color, and 3 for the final color.

However... if you use that code to create your own OCX, or to improve an OCX for your own, I would love to see it (at least the OCX) and guess I deserve a line (in the aboutbox) stating your gratitude towards me for the original code.

Having an uneven number of boxes (the count property) makes it have a gradient going up then going immediately to the start colour.

    Like this:

    012345678901234567890123456789...

    Instead of

    012345678987654321012345678987...

I knew that... but can't fix it. Unless not until I get to work (where I have the source). If you read the code in the thread I told before you could see exactly why this happen. I'll fix it on Monday.

    Thanks for bringing this up-.

The background is a BMP loaded from the resource file.

Ok, sorry if everybody got "mad" for my comment. But, after all, it's up to you, if you don't feel like adding my name in the credits of the OCX's aboutbox, you won't do it... and I could do nothing to avoid this.

I asked it just in case... I guess the idea (the gradient move) is pretty simple (it can be coded better, though) so as to deserve a "thanks to".

So, there you have the code to create the gradient, and movement. It's on one of the timers. And I'm sure it can be coded better because I coded that at 6 in the morning, after a 11-hour shift (working), and 1 hour more to go....

The only thing I'd ask is some way to get it below everything else (Z-Ordering doesn't work). There may be some way to do this by intercepting the paint event, and then drawing it there. That way, it COULD be behind other things.

Oh and for the copyright don't worry McBrain. I'm using it in my Download Client and I'm giving you full credit.

I don't know why the Z-Order doesn't work. After all, I'm paint lines over a picturebox. What you could try is to add a picturebox (with borderstyle set to none) and set this picture zorder.

About the copyright, I mean if you used the code to write your own OCX. I would like to get the credit for the original idea, or the code (you might get improved). But if you want to give me the credits anyway, I won't turn you down.
