[RESOLVED] Time format
Nothing much not even a big deal but i was wondering why not make it an easier format instead of...
have it like so...
Again its not a big deal, but it might be one reason why some people make bumps. Anyway just thought i would mention it

Re: Time format
I'm not sure what the date format has to do with bumping threads, but bumping is something we keep a close eye on and discourage anyone from engaging in.

Re: Time format
Lets take a simple look at CG's time format and VBF's time format.

Which one looks a little easier to understand?
The bumping argument was sort of useless, but i find that some people might find the other format easier to understand and will realize if its an old or new topic.

Re: Time format
Well we are two different sites but it has been formatted that way as long as I can remember and to change something important like the date format will really throw off many members.

Re: Time format
I would consider changing it if enough people wanted that, but it would take more than a couple.

Re: Time format
As I am English, I am used to dates being in the format DD/MM/YYYY, so it takes a bit of effort to read the current format - and can be easily misread if you don't know/remember which format it is shown in.
I would assume that the majority of people outside of the US have the same issue, so I can see that it would be a good idea to have a more explicit format.
It could be argued that month names could be confusing for non-English speakers, but as we are an English speaking site I don't think that is important.

Re: Time format
It would be best if vB could have a user setting changing the date format depending on the users local but noooo that would be too easy

Re: Time format
Like Si, I also use DD/MM/YYYY. I just saw a post with the date 01-02-2008 and thought hang on, it's not Feb yet
If in the 'User CP' there was a drop down list for 'Date Formats' this would make everyone happy

Re: Time format
Date/Time format used by CodeGuru is more universal so I would prefer that as well.

Re: Time format
I'd really prefer a short format like "Jan 7, 2008" rather than "January 7th, 2008" which is a bit of a screenful.

Re: Time format
If it IS going to be done then I vote for the shorter month name date format too. Although I like it the way it currently is.

Re: Time format
I agree that we should spell out the date because it is more internationally appropriate that way.
Since I'm an admin, that should give us enough votes to change it

Re: Time format
Abbreviated month used versus spelling it out. I assumed that was okay with everyone. If not - grumble here
