Monitor aspect ratio
Thinking about getting me a new larger monitor. Been looking at 34" and I've noticed a lot of them have 21:9 instead of the standard 16:9. Just curious if anyone has tried one and what(if any) differences you've notice in the way things look.
I can see they have a lower profile but height is really an issue to me.
Edit:
I'm not finding any 34" with the standard 16:9. I not looking for a curved screen. Though I've never used one, maybe I'd like it.

Nothing really wrong with my current monitor, just hadn't bought a new toy for a long time. Also wanted to get a screen with built in speakers.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
21:9 / "Ultrawide" monitors are closer to what most content is made for so imho most stuff looks better at that aspect ratio. If you have the desk space for it I do recommend you go 21:9 and not 16:9.
If you do go 21:9 there is a power toys tool called FancyZones that can help with windows / apps that you dont want to be super large. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...oys/fancyzones
As for curved I really didnt think it would be much of a difference but after getting one because the cost was basically the same I dont think ill ever go back to a flat monitor. Im fairly sure most of your higher end models will all be curved now days. Might be worth stopping in at your local electronics store and trying one out but I do recommend getting a curved one.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
I treated myself to a https://www.hp.com/gb-en/gaming-pc/d.../omen-34c.html a couple of years ago, the 21:9 ratio is a nice change - big enough to have a couple of apps side by side, without the same gap multi-monitor causes.
Typically I have VS 2022 about 2/3 of the screen and a browser (for research / debugging) takes up the remaining 1/3 - you can easily have 3 apps side by side if they aren't as screen hungry as VS. Much prefer it to a 16:9, and definitely better than two monitors.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
I think you should get enough curved monitors that you have 360 degree coverage. You could then have them on a platform that lowered down around you while you sit in a swivel chair.
My usual boring signature: Nothing

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
I still use a 4:3 ratio flat screen. I'm guessing those are near impossible to find nowadays.

But then I'd have to buy a swivel chair. I'm not swivel chair rich.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
I decided to go with a standard 19:9. These old eyes need as much surface space as possible.
Thanks for the replies.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
I'm puzzled as 19:9 is not a standard resolution.
Did you mean 16:9 ?

Yeah, just a typo. A lot of times my brain and fingers aren't on the same page.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
Went with a 32" ViewSonic screen. Pretty disappointed in the built in speakers. Already gave away my external speaks. lol
Anyone use a bluetooth speakers/soundbar with their PC??? Curious how well they stay connected, don't want to be reconnecting. Would like no wires but don't want it to be a hassle. I'm lazy.

Re: Monitor aspect ratio
I have a similar Samsung 32'' at home that I deliberately got it as a TV and I plug an HDMI to make it a PC screen. But it's 1080p and the speakers are pretty solid on the TV.
I'm also lazy on setting things , especially hardware based so Instead of doing experiments with bluetooth speakers I would suggest a proper set of speakers.
Also extra laziness if the bluetooth speakers work on battery and I have to charge them again and again. That's why I don't have a wireless mouse or keyboard. Lazy lazy lazy.

If I decided to go with bluetooth they will be a proper set. But I don't think that's going to happen. From what I've read bluetooth speakers have a lag. That's not acceptable to me. The only reason I was thinking about bluetooth was to cut down the amount of wires, it's a mess already. Though there would still be a power wire because I wouldn't get battery operated speakers.
I do use a wireless mouse and keyboard. I can deal with changing the battery every year or so. The battery last longer than I expected.
