Forum broken? & 503-504 ERRORS
I'm experiencing something weird.
When i want to post a reply or Edit one of my own replies, i'm getting a "403 - Forbidden"?!?!?!
Can someone confirm?
EDIT: OK, some insight.
I'm getting 403 - Forbidden, when trying to post "any" form of code?!?!?!
In this case it was a snippet (!) of SQL

Re: Forum broken?
I posted a snippet wrapped in CODE tags and it worked fine.
Give it another try when you get a chance. Perhaps it was a temporary thing.

In Database.
Just did a take with Code-Tags HERE, and it didn't take (403-Forbidden)
EDIT: Just tried multiple times.
It's not the Code-Tags. it doesn't matter if it's Code-Tags or Quote-Tags
It just doesn't want to take the SQL-Snippet
Another Test:
WHERE ID=5
EDIT: Works
WHERE CN LIKE 'MyName'
EDIT: Works, too.
What it rejects is anything with Quotes followed by ampersand
See syntax here in first post
https://www.vbforums.com/showthread....r&goto=newpost
EDIT:
I think to remember having similiar trouble some months ago when the forum was acting up in a similiar fashion

I updated the closed service ticket with the IT guys.
We are behind a new firewall that is causing the error.

I see that...occasionally, but too infrequently to see any pattern.
I got three different errors when I tried to post this. One was the 503 first byte one, followed by a 504 bad gateway, then another 503.

Re: Forum broken? & 503-504 ERRORS
I will be creating a service ticket in a few minutes.... If I'm not mistaken, these errors show up on a LOG at the Servers...
This has pretty much been the tell tale sign of trouble:
VBForum
There are currently 33,420 users online. 9 members and 33,411 guests
Most users ever online was 62,681, Jan 17th, 2025 at 03:30 AM.
Under 1,000 would be more the norm.
7 out of 11 sites have the high users online numbers.

I've had multiple 504 errors for most of the day (including when first trying to post this message!). Also on other related sites (eg codeguru).

If you google the error messages you quickly get the impression that they are server related.... So everyone is seeing the same errors.

Re: Forum broken? & 503-504 ERRORS
Yep, whatever the problem is that started a few weeks ago, it's still there.
I'm getting 503 & 504 errors probably 50% of the time, or more on VBForums, and have been over the last few weeks.
I just keep pounding on "refresh" and eventually get through, but it's quite annoying, and worrisome.
The 503 errors come when I attempt to make a new post. The 504 errors just come when I'm trying to read and navigate around in the forums.
I take it back. It's more like 80% of the time. I had a devil of a time just getting this post posted.
Ohhh, just FYI, I've got a top-notch computer and my speed test pegs in at ~1Gb, so I don't think that's the problem.

Just keep an eye on the number of online users. At the moment, it's over 38,000...and I'm only one of them. When the numbers are that high, these problems seem to happen. They aren't real, though.

From the IT Guys-> "we set a one hour caching rule a little earlier today at our CDN just for VBForums that should have only affected a few top search bots, yet we just removed that rule to see if that helps clear up the issue you were having."
