    Fix: Enabling D-Link Wi-Fi USB Adapters (MU-MIMO, Nano Models: DWA-121, 131, 181, etc

I recently encountered an issue with my D-Link Wireless N Nano DWA-131 USB adapter on a Windows laptop. After successfully installing the drivers, the device didn’t show up as a connection option in the taskbar. When I checked under Network Connections, it was listed as disabled, but attempts to enable it didn’t work.

I tried everything, reinstalling the drivers (default and updated), disabling antivirus/firewall, and tweaking system services, but nothing resolved the issue—until I found the solution below.

I hope this helps anyone facing a similar problem!

    Boot into Safe Mode:
    • Restart your PC and continuously press F8 until you see the Advanced Boot Options screen.
    • From the list on that screen, select Safe Mode.
    • Log in to an account with full administrative privileges.

Uninstall D-Link Wi-Fi USB Adapter Drivers:
    • Once logged in, restart the D-Link setup and click Uninstall to remove the existing drivers.
    • Disconnect your D-Link Wi-fi USB adapter

Reinstall the Drivers (Still in Safe Mode):
    • While still in Safe Mode, use the D-Link setup to reinstall the drivers.
--> Important: Do not reconnect your D-Link Wi-Fi USB adapter yet. <--

Restart and Boot into Safe Mode with Networking:
    • Restart your PC and press F8 again during boot.
    • Choose Safe Mode with Networking this time.
    • Log into an account with full administrative privileges.

    Enable and Connect:
    • Plug in your D-Link Wi-Fi USB adapter.
    • The adapter should now be enabled.
    • Connect to your router, enter the Wi-Fi password, and you’re good to go!

Once the Wi-Fi USB adapter is working, it will remain functional under all accounts when you log in normally.

This method bypassed the issue preventing the adapter from installing correctly on my laptop.
