    Beginning of the internet

This is the prelude in this link:

    https://theconversation.com/how-brit...internet-45404

British computer scientist and Internet Hall of Fame inductee Peter Kirstein died in January 2020 at the age of 86, after a nearly 50-year career at UCL. A few years before he died, he was commissioned by then Conversation technology editor Michael Parker (now director of operations) to write an in-depth piece originally intended as part of a special series on the internet. It wasn’t published at the time, as the series was postponed, but now to mark Professor Kirsten’s contributions we are delighted to be able to publish his reflections on the challenges he faced connecting the UK in the early 1970s to the forerunner of what would become the modern internet. The article was edited by Michael with oversight kindly provided by Professor Jon Crowcroft, a colleague of Professor Kirstein’s.
It is interesting and says it was the beginning of passwords.

Here is an early network. If you look closely, or open the link, you can see the things connected. Colleges, Pentagon, UK.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comput...Dream_Machines

Prior to the initial release of Computer Lib/Dream Machines, Nelson was working on the first hypertext project, Project Xanadu, founded in 1960. An integral part to the Xanadu vision was computing technology and the freedom he believed came with it. These ideas were later compiled and elaborated upon in the 1974 text, around the time when locally networked computers had appeared and Nelson found global networks as a space for the hypertext system.

    Re: Beginning of the internet

    In Xanadu did Nelson, Ted
    A stately dream machine decree,
    Where hypertext streaming ran
    Through cables measurable by man
    Down to a token ring.
So twice five score pages of purpled prose
With double covers were girdled round
And there were pages bright with hackers dreams
Where blossomed many a revolutionary idea
And here were concepts ancient as a heap
    Enfolding code of high theory.

Anyone remember Netscape and 2400 baud modems

And then God visited Earth and gave us the 56k modem.
Wi-fi went down for five minutes, so I had to talk to my family....They seem like nice people.

I remember being on call, up in the middle of the night, watching the data slowly paint one line at a time across the screen
