    They're back!

By unpopular request, error 504s are back! Booo! I've now had several over the last couple of days! I thought they had been banished and buried - but whoever has used the undead spell to bring them back, would they reverse it please.

    Re: They're back!

I got several just trying to read this thread. About an hour back, the site was basically unusable.

I always wonder why the errors are so inconsistent.

The site is fine early this morning.

    Re: They're back!

The site is generally slower ALL the time often taking several attempts before it finally connects and then when it starts to fail it fails consistently. When it works it si back to normal for a short period, then the failures restart again with a vengeance.

    Re: They're back!

These posts took a minute and a half to submit with a huge amount of waiting, thought it was a BBS via my 9600 baud modem and not a forum on the internet for a moment.

It was fine for me five hours ago - and it still is.... In theory, we should all have issues at the same time.
Wi-fi went down for five minutes, so I had to talk to my family....They seem like nice people.

We all have an old modem somewhere, do we not? There are still dial-up BBS in the world, few and far between but they exist.

That depends upon what is the issue. Is it related directly to the forum computers or in the external infrastructure used for access? If the forum, then yes I would expect that we should all have issues at the same time. If in the external infrastructure then possibly no as we won't all access via the same in different parts of the world.

I still have a couple of modems at the back of a cupboard. One Motorola and a Hayes. And a cardbus modem for a laptop (also one for a 10Base-t network connection). That's one of the aspects of retro computing I definitely don't miss!

    Re: They're back!

The sound is something I miss, the successful "gdong gdong" of a modem making a connection. A modem expressing joy.

With regards to connections, on the forum at 19:00 GMT a "404 Friends not found" did occur. Only lasted a few minutes.

Friends not found??? Were you looking for reruns, or is that some commentary on life?

You were just the closest thing to a friend at the time I needed some love, sigh, "friends not found".
