Is everybody having fun?
I know I am.
Nothing special. A beer, a ZX81, a black cat on my desk, a full tummy and some progress with my programs.

Living bad dreams.
We are changing a website again and I need to pass all the data + I need to import a couple of million cards that will bloat the server so I need to do a controlled batch insert, also we are changing some devices to cope with the new public sector ministry of economy specs and we need to implement some strange dll's to the system without manual (public sector ,meh) to top that I need to get new car tires and the shop is on a hill on the other side of town and I need to get there really early or wake up really early get to job so I can leave early to go there.
On the good news we have our first new band rehearsal tomorrow.

Compared to the las 12 weeks... yeha, I guess I'm having fun... but it's all relative ... compared to what I wish I was doing or how I wish things were going? No, I am not having fun.

Re: Is everybody having fun?
I'm not having too much fun at the moment. I received a "personal improvement plan" which basically gives me metrics I must meet in 30 days in order to stay employed.
I remember when I was younger and my dad was in upper management at Allstate. He had been passed up on promotions before, but there was one he was particularly upset about. I had asked him what's wrong and why he didn't get the promotion and I will never forget what he told me. He said: David, some people are great at know when to talk and when to be quiet; I've never been able to be quiet.
Here I am some 20 years later and I'm starting to think it might be hereditary. If I see something that's wrong, I won't stroke whoever suggested it's ego, instead I will speak out. Apparently I have done that too much and have really ticked off the chief architect, now I'm facing the consequences.

Contemplating it?
Always.
It is the capability that eludes me but I am working on it. My ancestors had a good run on it a while back, all I have to do is set up the right parameters worldwide, similar to last time. Somehow though I also need to be the reigning monarch. I haven't figured that one out yet. Cup of tea might help.

Re: Is everybody having fun?
After talking with my wife, she started off by wanting me to leave. But I explained why I wanted to stay and she supports it.
I do have a lot of side work (1099 contract jobs) that supplement my income that I can rely on in case I do lose my job which makes me feel better.
At the end of the day I do not intend on staying with the company 20+ years and retiring. My goal is to eventually start my own software consulting firm with a vision of hiring people wanting to get into the business specifically from my parish (which is rural) to give them a leg up. I just don't feel I'm financially in the spot to start that right now, so I'm hoping I ace this "PIP", stay on a few more years, then follow my dream.
So it's not all bad, I do try to look on the bright side of things, but I will say that yesterday (when I received it) was probably the worst day I have had both personally and professionally in a very long time.

We all have room for personal improvement. The person who said honesty is always the best policy never took into consideration personalities and egos. Learning to be tactfully honest is tricky. A saying I always remembered was, they might not always be right but they are always your boss. lol

I worked in IT at Delta Airlines about twenty years ago. They made us all reapply for our jobs. Interview process and the whole works. They mainly got rid of middle managers but it was stressful.

A lot of us are in a similar boat. We are like the 12th Man in the cricket team. Get water when the opening batsman needs it and stay in reserve because you never know when you will be called.

Having fun.
For my birthday bought a Hooray Henry workshop vacuum cleaner.
An electric strimmer for the garden,
Cocktail shakers
A pair of antique barley twist candlesticks
and an Airfix 1/72nd scale Lancaster.
That's my birthday sorted. Tonight off to the Recruiting Sergeant pub in Horsford for an English roast and good beer.

Re: Is everybody having fun?
I have some good news today. I rolled out a mobile sports app for my local middle school (grades 6 - 8) that allows parents and students to get the schedule, outcomes, and roster. I plan on making this open source so that if other towns want to do the same, they can. I've already reached out to the high school to see if they want their students to set this up and maintain it.

Re: Is everybody having fun?
Yeah, the idea is that these would be supported a school level (as opposed to a parish/county or state level). So in reality if a school up the bayou wants to do the same thing, all they would do is swap out the values defined in an environment file (.env and environment.ts) and update the database records for their specific school.
